Lin Liu

Associate Professor

Lin Liu is an Associate Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Lin earned his Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2011. Before joining CUHK in 2014, he was a George Thompson Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University. He leverages a diverse range of geodetic, geophysical, remote sensing, and deep learning techniques to investigate Earth’s cryosphere, focusing on permafrost, glaciers, and ice sheets. In recognition of his pioneering work, he received the 2021 John Wahr Early Career Award from the American Geophysical Union for his innovative use of geodetic methods in studying the cryosphere. He is currently serving as the head of Graduate Division of Earth and Environmental Sciences at CUHK.
